The restaurant and beer garden "Goldener Hecht" is located directly at the historic old Neckarbrücke in the heart of Heidelbergs historic center. In a cozy and authentic ambience, Austrian cuisine is served in big portions and appropriately served by the service in the Dirndl. The Wiener Schnitzel is probably the best in town, a unique Austrian Tafelspitz in a strong Boullion or the Kaiserschmarrn (enough for at least two) are further highlights on the menu.
They are very small single rooms but super cozy with a beautiful view of the towers to the bridge, anytime again
Not my favourite place, not very clear menu and average service. We were going to get dinner here, but after we got an off Weisses beer we changed our mind. We mentioned to the waiter that the beers were bad and he said that, that was the flavour of the beer (rich banana flavour) after we insisted on him to try the beer, he realised that it was bad and gave us another one. We were pulled off from dinner after the bad beers, and we decided to pay, so on the windows says that they do accept cards, but actually they don’t. When we tried to pay for the beers the waiter said thAt the minimum amount was €20 and that we would have to buy more beers to be able to pay by card. Which we didn’t, we ended up having a massive discussion until they actually accepted the payment by card. I don’t recommend at all!
Service could be a bit more professional, otherwise very tasty!
Restaurant is very good and beautifully located on the old bridge! Get a table for 8 people at short notice on a Saturday noon! ... well this one was already reserved and the advice was given that you could "only" sit there for one and a half hours! But that's ok! Ate a few small snacks and soups, these were fine! Drinks were very well chilled, unfortunately you forgot to order drinks. But that was corrected very quickly after a hint! Can happen... Again any time...
Do not! Tourist trap! Waited for our drinks for thirty minutes and then asked again (our thirsty and later annoyed looks went unnoticed). The order was lost. No apologies or compensation, just the comment that the food could take a while now. Ordered a second beer during dinner, which was brought when we finished eating. The comment that we no longer needed it was astonished. Checkout was also messy. We saw similar cases around us, due to poor organization and no eye for service for the guests. They have never heard of Corona proof, tables were nice and close together :-( Disappointing evening, really a shame.
Schnitzel 320g with fried potatoes and 0.5 wheat for just under 21 €, tasted good. Attentive service, beautiful view of the footbridge and the river if you sit outside, clearly recommendable.
Super friendly staff, cozy atmosphere and delicious cutlets ⚘
The food tasted very good and the service was friendly. Unfortunately, we were not informed that the restaurant would close at 10 p.m. So it wasn’t too comfortable, we were told very clearly during the meal that it’s the end of the day. We had to take part of the meal with us. The prices are high.
Great, Heidelberg is always worth a trip. For the second time, now with my wife fantastic, also in the evening the people stroll through the streets great life restaurants good full the bridges class
After the defeat at the Holländischer Hof, we found the Goldener Hecht restaurant around the corner, and the service was there immediately And we were allowed to take a seat outside The service was friendly and responded to our requests, our patients had problems swallowing and due to radiation. Puree with a sauce was immediately offered The food ordered was excellent and very, very tasty. The prices were reasonable for Heidelberg, which is a bit higher, as it is a historic city, is understandable, but we like to pay a little more for good food. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for the friendliness and prompt service.
I fluctuate between "everything is okay" and "good". Gut has won because> very nice rooms, good location and good food won over unfortunately warm beer and warm Almdudler. Staff neither friendly nor rude. Price €€€
The Wiener Schnitzel is highly recommended. The potato salad with it is extremely good!
Very bad food. Overpriced!
Mediocre...salad was good, liver dumplings wee okish but lacked seasoning as did the sauerkraut, Kaiserschmarrn was badly done and much too sweet
Nice city and beautiful restaurant ?
Friendly service, clean restaurant and good Austrian cuisine. To recommend :)
The restaurant is very well located, right by the old bridge, I had the veal cordon bleu and my girlfriend had the veal schnitzel Viennese style, it was ok but not more. The service was very friendly and makes my 4 star rating, it is a 5 star condition ?. The food deserves only 3 stars.
Service staff apparently totally overloaded. Ordered drinks, after 20 minutes another waiter noticed that we still had nothing. Ordered again and then got it wrong ..... ?♂️ Map very clear and priced rather high. The location is a good bonus. Too bad
We were eating here around 2pm on a Saturday and got a seat inside. Thanks to Corona, you wait outside for the table assignment. All conditions friendly and courteous. Food was good. Fried chicken with potato salad tasted good, even if I have to agree with the reviewers who say that the potato salad doesn't really taste Austrian. But that doesn't mean he's not good. Fried chicken was fine and consisted of three pieces for me, the largest was the breast part, which was definitely not pressed meat, as some write here. Bread was quite firm on the club and the small piece, but tasted good. I drank a sprinkled almdudler, I've never seen that in Tyrol, but it was good :) The only thing that really irritated me was that in the end 3 different people served us, but a temporary help was just being trained. I also have to say that it is really not cheap, but neither are the other restaurants.
We only came to the restaurant after 10 p.m. and were served very friendly and could also order dinner.
If you like Austrian food - this is the place to go, but you have to come hungry. We have been here several times. The Wiener Schnitzel (of course veal) are a delight with the potato salad - the serving can also cover for 2. Also tried the Gulasch - equally good. If you manage to keep some space in your stomach- try the Kaiserschmarren... Though outdoor seating if offered, I highly recommend to reserve. Everything is good
Friendly, good food and great beer. The Schnitzel was better than most I've tried in Frankfurt and Heidelberg, but not the best. It was a little dry. The potato soup is comforting on a cool day. Good flavors in both dishes. Black beer was refreshing. I'll come back next time I'm in town to see if I can give it one more star.
Excellent kaiserschmarn
It is recommended that the tender tender steak is tender, but the pork chops are a bit hard. After dinner, you can have a local dessert cake?
Really wonderful restaurant with excellent service and staff. This is my go-to restaurant when bringing small groups to Heidelberg, Perfect location with the terrace but equally wonderful at Christmas Market season with cozy indoor decor,Order a serving of the Kauserschmarrin you will be so glad you did, this week we enjoyed it with plums.
Good food, friendly and quick service for our lunch stop from the cruise. Had the wieneschnitzel and liver dumplings. The first one was excellent. The liver is for the more adventurous one.
Great food, nice place. Recommended
Delicious food and nice waiter.
Loved the food!
Good food for a touristc site...
The food was fantastic. Bier was good.
Really wonderful restaurant with excellent service and staff. This is my go-to restaurant when bringing small groups to Heidelberg, Perfect location with the terrace but equally wonderful at Christmas Market season with cozy indoor decor, Order a serving of the Kauserschmarrin you will be so glad you did, this week we enjoyed it with plums. The small order of schnitzel will fill you up and if you are lucky to be there during Kürbiscreme soup (pumpkin) you'll be so lucky! ? Parking in Heidelberg is a bear so I always recommend the train, not alot of large spaces or big park houses in the old town area.
Excellent and massive Wiener schnitzel and great location right by the old bridge, but a little off the busiest street. Check out the wall paintings on your way to the toilet. This place has history. You can probably find cheaper places, but hey - you're on vacation in Heidelberg!
Location awesome. Food decent. Manger was rude. Charged us for something we never got.
This place is a great place to eat some authentic German and Viennese food, schnitzel are amazing the beer is fantastic the decoration is beautiful highly recommend.
Food are not bad but it costs too much than it’s value.
Excellent location , friendly service and tasteful dishes
The food was good, rustic atmosphere, service could be a bit friendlier.
Ok
Great Austrian food and friendly service in a beautiful location.
super
Very good, authentic German food. Restaurant was full and service was very good.
Great food, super location (just across the Alte Bridge) and huge portions.
Fabulous friendly service, good selection of food, and great spot if you're a tourist, right next to old bridge
Maybe it was a bad evening, but We ordered the food and apparently the waiter forgot about it.
Delicious, very full, good service, but a little expensive.
Schnitzel!
Very good
Classic German restaurant in the heart of the old city. Portions are very generous, with tasty, well-prepared traditional dishes and fresh beer.
Good food and service. Well located and not expensive
